Ingrid Betancourt is a French-Colombian activist in the cause of freedom. She has received multiple international awards and was nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize for her commitment to democratic values, freedom and tolerance. Her memoir Even Silence Has an End (2011) is being adapted into a film. Ingrid Betancourt is a Colombian former presidential candidate known for her crusade against corruption, violence and environmental degradation. In February 2002 she was taken hostage by the Colombia’s terrorist group FARC and rescued on July 2, 2008. She is a bestselling author translated into more than fifteen languages.
